SARFAN Fans! It looks like our pal Oleg is back at it again, trying to go on about the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) conspiracy he is so fond of. As we’ve discussed before, Oleg seems to be embedded with the Russian government and used by them as a mouth piece to push their agenda. In this case, he is trying to claim that the Russians had nothing to do with the downing of the MH17. For those of you who don’t know, here’s a quick recap of the incident: The MH17 was a passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down on 17 July 2014 while flying over Eastern Ukraine. In this tragic incident all 283 passengers and 15 crew members were killed. What lead up to this incident was the War in Donbass, during the battle in Shakhtarsk Raion, in an area controlled by pro-Russian rebels. The pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk claimed to have shot down a Ukrainian An-26 military transport plane, but upon investigation of the wreckage it was revealed to have been the MH17 passenger plane, a wholly civilian aircraft and non-combatant.

Following that revelation, a committee was created by the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) and the Dutch-leg joint investigation team (JIT), who concluded that the airliner was downed by a Buk surface-to-air missile launched from pro-Russian separatist-controlled territory in Ukraine. According to the JIT, the Buk that was used originated from the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade of the Russian Federation and had been transported from Russia on the day of the crash, fired from a field in a rebel-controlled area and returned to Russia afterwards. The findings by the DSB and JIT are consistent with the earlier claims by American and German intelligence sources and claims by the Ukrainian government. On the basis of the JIT’s conclusions, the governments of the Netherlands and Australia held Russia responsible for the deployment of the Buk installation and were pursuing legal routes as of May 2018. The Russian government denied involvement in the shooting down of the airplane, and its account of how the aircraft was shot down has varied over time. Coverage in Russian media has also differed from that in other countries. Russia holds the Ukrainian government at fault for allowing civilian flights in a war zone.

Where our pal Oleg comes in, is in his vigilant denial of Russia’s role in this incident. Russia has used him and his organization, the Global Rights of Peaceful People (GRPP), to try and discredit the findings out the JIT. He claims it’s a conspiracy, and actively refutes the JIT’s findings while spreading the Russian narrative of the disaster.

We know our community is an active bunch, so anything you all can do to help ensure the JIT findings are supported helps us all counter Russia’s malign influence. They actively supported the rebel forces, and let them act without accountability, and in doing so they are just as responsible for the tragic shooting of the MH17 as the rebels. Let your voices be heard, and let’s all do our part in protecting the innocent from further aggression by Russian and its puppets.
