The Odal/Othala Rune, A Clever Symbol of Hate

SARFAN fans! As we continue exploring stories and concepts in the hopes of educating you guys on what to loo out for to keep our communities safe, we come back to the Neo-Nazi’s affinity for Nordic runes. The rune we’re going over today is the Odal or Othala rune. It was the symbol for the Nazi Blood and Soil movement, another pillar of their hateful ideology. It was also used heavily by Waffen-SS, Hitler Youth, and other groups of the time. Today, Neo-Nazis and other hate groups rally around the rune in place of the swastika, as a way to show their allegiance without as much attention.

With that in mind, I’m sure you already know who openly uses this symbol of hate. Russian Mercenaries Wagner emblazon the rune on their vehicles and equipment. They openly display their core ideologies of hate, and are fully supported by the Russian government in order to accomplish their lofty goals in foreign lands. I know we here at SARFAN tend to shoehorn this message any time we discuss a topic, but our point is that as Russia continues enabling these groups overseas, how long before they redirect these groups towards our neighboring counties? We’ve seen what they did in Crimea, something that will likely receive it’s own entry in the coming weeks, and we see what they’re doing in Belarus. We have to keep out attention on these moving pieces in order to take the appropriate actions before it’s too late. We have to be the vanguard against these hateful ideologies if everyone fails to do so. Please continue to stay informed, be safe, and if you have any ideas for articles in the future, please reach out!
